The simulator is based on estimating the energy consumption of Battery Electric Buses (BEB) from a set of nine parameters. Our team has developed and trained seven machine-learning models on a large dataset of BEB operations. In total, we trained the models on more than 1 million trip segments and then validated each model independently.

The results communicated in this simulator are based on our peer-reviewed research (Machine learning prediction models for battery-electric bus energy consumption in transit) published in Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment Journal, Volume 96, July 2021, 102868 (available here).
